Astoria Park: August 7th

On Sunday, we had to go get groceries and wait around for the internet guy.  I finished the book I was reading, "The Mercy of Thin Air" by Ronlyn Domingue.  I liked the book, but the last 50-75 pages were amazing.  It was a beautiful love story and I am a bit embarrassed to admit, it even had me crying toward the end.  After the internet guy came by, we headed back to Astoria Park to get a few pictures.

Astoria Park has a huge pool, which you can see in the background of this picture.

The park is on the East River.  You can see one of the bridges and uptown Manhattan in the background of this picture.

This is the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, which connects Queens to Midtown Manhattan and crosses the East River (which isn't actually a river because it is salt water, or so I hear).

This is the Hell's Gate Bridge and it's pillars run through the park.

Here is Farley in the park standing under the pillars that hold up the Hell's Gate Bridge.
There are lots of cute resturants near the park, but we haven't stopped to eat there yet.  After going to the park, we went home and I made steak, perogies, and fruit salad.  We tried to go see "Inception" but they were sold out, so we walked around Queens for a while.  When we returned to our neighborhood, we decided to go to Martha's Country Bakery.  It is beautiful and everything is full of fat!  It was packed at 10:30 at night, which shouldn't surprise me, but it did because most bakeries are not even open that late.  I want to go back and try their pie and see if it stands up to Mom's pie (I highly doubt that!).
