Central Park in September 2011

I've been super busy this year and unfortunately, I have not had a chance to blog as much as I want.  After Farley and I returned from Hershey, PA, we went to Central Park to see the Bethesda Fountain.  Farley has  been wanting to see the fountain, but we had  not made it yet.  The story of the Bethesda Fountain is from the New Testament about an angel in a pool of water.  Whoever goes to the water first after the angel appears, will be healed from his/her ailments.  This fountain was built to commemorate the 1842 opening of the Croton Aqueduct, which supplied New York City with fresh water.  It is a beautiful area of Central Park and we went on a beautiful day.

Right next to the the Bethesda Fountain is the Bethesda Terrace, both of which over look the Central Park Lake.  It was constructed in the late 1850s and it has an upper and lower terrace flanked by beautiful stair cases--see pictures below!  There was an awesome choir singing in the lower terrace when we walked through.

This is the back end of the Bethesda Terrace.  It is a stairway that goes to the back and the two stairways that flank the Terrace are at the front of the fountain.

A picture of the Fountain from the upper Terrace.

I'm sitting with Has Christian Andersen's statue near the Central Park Conservatory Water.  They have readings of Children's books at the statue throughout the summer.

This is just one of the many bridges and underpasses.  I loved all of the vines growing down from the bridge.

The same area from the opposite view!

After our relaxing day at Central Park, Farley and I started rotations again.  I started Hematology/Oncology at a hospital in the Bronx and he started Neurosurgery in Brooklyn.
